NEW YORK CITY

New York was quite an exciting adventure for us!  We were actually booked for two different TV series – “The Marvelous Mrs Maisel” and “Succession”.  And because of precautions for Covid, everyone had to get tested three days before being allowed on location.  Which was great for us!

It was Damon’s first time in NYC and I hadn’t been there for 40 years, so it was an amazing time!

We spent three days prior to being extras on “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel going around to the typical tourist locations, enjoying everything we had heard about and seen – and were now experiencing in person!

We stayed at the Marriott’s sister hotel – The Sheraton at Times Square.  It was on 7th, right between Times Square and Central Park.  Perfect location and central to just about everything!

After our Covid testing and wardrobe fitting in Brooklyn, we had plenty of time to experience all the typical sightseeing that shouldn’t be missed.  Plus some extra things which were icing on our “cake”!

Can you tell we had an incredible time?

AROUND TOWN

Fun places that are typical sightseeing places we enjoyed:

  • Empire State Building – always an amazing view.

  • Statue of Liberty Cruise – a good reminder of what our country is about

  • Central Park – a beautiful walking park.  If tired of walking, just take a pedi-cab back.

  • The Metropolitan Museum of Art – “The Met”, with over 5,000 years of art.

  • Times Square – watching the screens change at night is sensory overload

  • Broadway – walking the street that is so famous. You can help but breakout in song.

  • Ride the Subway – We did it during the daytime.

  • Take a Pedi-cab – a wild and crazy experience for sure.

  • Grand Central Station – amazing and huge building that seems to go on for miles.

  • Rockefeller Center – Great statues and skating rink. There’s roller skating in the summer.

  • Brooklyn Bridge – a historical and architectural bridge worth seeing and walking.

Other wonderful things we recommend doing:

  • Billy Crystal’s play “Mr. Saturday Night”

  • Have breakfast at “Stardust Diner”.  Their waiters are amazing singers who are Broadway-quality.  All of a sudden, someone breaks out with an amazing song that wows the customers. Just be ready for the lines to get into the place.  No reservations and many times, there are lines around the block.

  • Strawberry Fields” – the John Lennon Memorial in Central Park.

  • “Book of Mormons” Play.  If you haven’t seen it yet, there’s a lot of surprises.  It wasn’t what I thought it would be at all.  And it’s terrific.

  • Take an electric bike carriage.  These guys are crazy-fast, and get you to places even faster than cabs

  • Birdland Jazz – The famous jazz club that’s hosted some of the most famous jazz musicians since 1949. Historic, and still featuring incredible jazz entertainment.
